There is one honest warning worth putting up front. If a phone is still signed into somebody's Apple Account, it is Activation Locked and it is worth nothing to anybody, including us. That is the single biggest reason old phones turn out to be unsellable, and it is fixable in five minutes if you can still get into the account.

An old phone or two will not cover a new iPhone, but several of them together make a real dent in a second-hand 12 or 13. Trade-in credit adds 12%, which matters more when the base number is small.

Activation Lock, which is everything
A locked phone is worth nothing at all, to us or to anyone. Before you send it, sign out of iCloud and erase it. If you cannot remember the Apple Account, sort that out first, because no amount of goodwill on our side can unlock it.
Whether it powers on
On phones this old this is the main branch in the pricing. A phone that boots is a phone somebody can use. A phone that does not is a parts donor, which is still worth something, just less.
The SE models punch above their age
The 2nd and 3rd generation SE are much newer inside than they look, and they hold value better than an X or an 8 from the same era. If yours is an SE, do not lump it in with the genuinely ancient stuff.
Volume, if you have several
If you are clearing out four or five old phones at once, say so in the notes. It is one courier collection instead of five and we would rather do it in one go.
Things that do not disqualify it.
