AirPods are the Apple product people are most surprised to learn have a resale value. They feel disposable, they are small enough to lose, and the batteries visibly degrade. So they end up in the drawer, replaced rather than sold.
The exception, and it is a large one, is the AirPods Max. They are expensive, they are built like furniture, and second-hand demand for them is steady. A pair of AirPods Max in decent condition is worth genuinely meaningful money.

Completeness
Two buds plus the matching case is worth considerably more than the sum of the parts sold separately, because it is a sellable product rather than a spare. Have a proper look for the missing one before deciding it is gone.
AirPods Max are a different market
They hold value like a premium headphone rather than like an earbud, which is to say much better. The ear cushions are replaceable and worn ones are not a serious deduction.
Whether they are genuine
Counterfeit AirPods are widespread and often convincing. We test on arrival, and a fake has no value to us at all. If you bought them somewhere unusual, it is worth knowing before you send them rather than after.
