Who is actually getting your iPhone?

A fair question, and one more people should ask before couriering something expensive to a website.

SellYouriPhone.co.za is not a new company. It is part of Epic Deals, trading as Tech Revival (Pty) Ltd since 2014. If you are selling an iPhone, this is the part of Epic Deals that handles it.

It goes back further than the company does. Before you could walk into a shop in South Africa and buy an iPhone, our founder Brad Eyre was importing them from the United States: paying up front for phones nobody here had seen yet, having them couriered halfway around the world, and being told by more or less everybody that it was a mad way to spend money. There was no second-hand iPhone market in this country because nobody was willing to go first. We went first, and we have been buying and selling them ever since.

That distinction matters more than it sounds. Plenty of buyback sites are one person, a laptop and a Gmail address, which is fine right up until something goes wrong and there is nobody to phone. There are 30 people here. There is a warehouse. There is a finance team that runs payments at 4pm every working day. There is a review history going back over a decade that you can go and read without asking us for permission.

The reviews are the part worth checking. 2,500+ of them across HelloPeter, Facebook and bidorbuy, under the Epic Deals name, because that is who we are. They are not curated. There is a negative one in there about a refund dispute and we have left it exactly where it is, because a review page with no criticism on it has never been a review page.

Counting live for Epic Deals, since 2013

This is every Epic Deals site combined, updated from our own records rather than rounded up for a website. It is the single most checkable thing we can show you.

Why a separate site just for iPhones?

Because iPhones are not laptops

An iPhone is priced on its generation, storage, battery health, whether the screen has been opened and whether the Activation Lock is off. A MacBook is priced on almost none of those. Lumping both into a generic gadget form produces generic gadget offers.

Because the questions are different

Nobody selling a MacBook asks how to release an Activation Lock on a phone with a black screen, or whether 78% battery health is a write-off. Those questions deserve a page that answers them rather than a footnote.

Because iPhones sell fast

Second-hand iPhones move quicker than anything else on EpicDeals.co.za, which is why we can pay competitively for them, including the cracked and dead ones that other buyers refuse outright.

Because the trust problem is worse here

Phone sales are where private-sale scams concentrate, and everybody selling one already knows it. A checkable business that has been trading since 2014 and answers a landline is a better answer to that than another marketplace listing.
